Podcasting, ALA, & the LSW

So, rattling around in my head the last couple days is an idea based on an ALA TechSource blog post by Jason Griffey. In the post, he talks about the equipment and programs he uses to record the podcasts that show up on the LITA blog.

What I was thinking was....what if the LSW had a crew of people who were willing to record for podcast release the sessions they attend at conferences like ALA Annual and Midwinter, where there is no formal recording of sessions. Would this work? I know there are possible copyright, technical, and financial issues that could be problems, but I really think this could be something the LSW could do to help drag ALA kicking and screaming in to the 21st century.

After all, if the LSW can provide coverage of a wide range of sessions with $0, why couldn't ALA do it officially?

Whaddya think?

What do I think?

This is the sort of thing that I've been trying to push with the ALA via BIGWIG for, oh....about 2 years now. :-) Like Aaron said, we're working on it! I would love nothing more than to see the LSW and BIGWIG working on something together. I think of us as one big group, anyway...BIGWIG in the belly of the beast, the LSW poking it from outside.

Come help me!

Jason

Work with BIGWIG

fwiw, BIGWIG is working on instructional materials for the willing but not yet knowledgeable ALA units (or pretty much anyone) on technologies available to do just that.

It's in wikified tabular form right now, but folks could crank out a few 30-60 second overviews of the various pieces-parts and how to string them together for people to see/watch.

Take th ebit in your teeth & run with it

Thanks, Aaron....I was hoping

Thanks, Aaron....I was hoping LSW could work with LITA and Griffey on this.
